Dental Bridges

What are Dental Bridges?

A dental bridge is a common and effective solution for replacing missing teeth. A bridge is a type of dental restoration that is anchored to the adjacent teeth, also known as abutment teeth. The artificial tooth, or pontic, fills the space left by the missing tooth, restoring the appearance and function of your smile.

What type of dental bridges are available?

There are different types of bridges, such as traditional bridges, cantilever bridges, and Maryland bridges. The type of bridge that is best for you will depend on your individual needs and the condition of your remaining teeth. At our practice, we offer a range of dental bridge options to suit your individual needs and desired results.

Traditional Bridges:

This type of bridge is the most common and is made up of two crowns that are placed on the teeth on either side of the missing tooth or teeth, and a false tooth or teeth that are suspended between the crowns. This type of bridge is typically made of porcelain fused to metal and is a good option for people who have healthy teeth on either side of the gap.

Cantilever Bridges:

This type of bridge is similar to a traditional bridge, but only one tooth is used to support the false tooth or teeth. This option is best for people who have healthy teeth on one side of the gap, but not the other

Maryland Bridges:

This type of bridge is also known as a resin-bonded bridge. It is made up of a false tooth or teeth that are supported by a metal framework that is bonded to the back of the existing teeth. This option is best for people who have small gaps and healthy teeth on either side of the gap

Implant-supported Bridges:

This type of bridge is held in place by dental implants rather than by being supported by the existing teeth. This option is best for people who have lost multiple teeth or have significant jawbone loss.

Removable Bridges:

This type of bridge can be removed by the patient for cleaning and maintenance. This option is best for people who have multiple missing teeth but prefer the option of being able to remove the bridge.

How long does the bridges treatment take?

The bridge procedure typically requires two appointments. During the first appointment, the abutment teeth will be prepared by removing a small amount of enamel to make room for the bridge. Impressions of your teeth will be taken, and a temporary bridge will be placed while the final bridge is being crafted at a dental laboratory. During the second appointment, the permanent bridge will be placed, and any necessary adjustments will be made to ensure a proper fit and comfortable bite.
